The County Clerk is an elected official as provided for by the Washington State Constitution and is the administrative and financial officer for the Superior Court.
It is our mission to serve the courts and the citizens of Kitsap County in a manner best suited to provide quality, efficient, and effective service. We believe the public has a right to employees who embody the highest standards of excellence, integrity, and fairness.
The Clerk receives, processes and preserves all documents in perpetuity for all Superior Court matters, including criminal, civil, family law, probate, guardianship, paternity, adoption and juvenile matters.
As the financial officer for the court, the Clerk collects statutory fees and fines, victim restitution, and maintains the court's trust account.
As "ex-officio clerk of the court", the Clerk must be present at every court hearing to establish an independent record of each hearing ("minutes") and keep record of all exhibits entered by the parties.
The Clerk performs quasi-judicial functions such as issuing writs, warrants of arrest, and letters testamentary.
The Clerk serves as the Jury Commissioner and provides jury management services for all Kitsap County courts, including district and municipal courts.
