Commercial garbage collection services in the county are regulated by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC). The WUTC establishes collection fees for the service area. Commercial businesses have the choice of either subscribing to garbage collection services provided by WM or self-hauling their waste to a permitted facility.

Waste removal and hauling is a regulated industry in Washington. If you need to hire someone to clean up and remove waste from your commercial property, hire a business permitted to haul solid waste in Kitsap County.

Recycling

Recycling collection

Commercial recycling collection services for cardboard, paper, cans, and bottles are available in an competitive open market. Your business may hire any licensed service provider, including:

Businesses may also drop-off small quantities of recyclable cardboard, paper, cans, and bottles at any Kitsap County waste facility. Large quantities from businesses may be turned away if facility capacity is limited.


Appliances (commercial)

Contact Total Reclaim or a local scrap metal recycler to ask about recycling commercial appliances. Commercial appliances are not accepted for recycling or disposal at any Kitsap County solid waste facility.


Cooking oil

Businesses can subscribe to a cooking oil collection service or use a cooking oil solidifier. Liquid cooking oil is not accepted in the garbage.


Construction debris

​It is less expensive to recycle construction debris than to dispose of it as garbage. In some cases, you may need to separate the materials in order to recycle them. Recyclable wastes include lumber, wood waste, scrap metal, concrete, and asphalt. Search the Waste Wizard to find a recycling site for your sorted debris.

​Electronics

Qualifying businesses can use the free E-Cycle Washington program to recycle working or broken televisions, computers, laptops, monitors, tablets, and portable DVD players at drop-off sites.

Yard waste

Recycling clean yard waste at a yard waste recycling facility is cheaper than disposing of it as garbage.


Waste prevention laws
​Businesses must follow Washington's waste prevention laws. These laws cover Styrofoam, single-use service ware, plastic bags, compostable products, and PFAS chemicals.


​Miscellaneous waste types

Dangerous waste - small quantity generator program

Most businesses generate some form of dangerous waste. Qualifying businesses that generate small quantities of dangerous waste may transport their waste to the Kitsap County Small Quantity Generator program to safely and affordably dispose of it.


Dangerous waste - medium and large-quantity generators

Businesses that generate medium or large quantities of dangerous waste must hire a waste service provider to handle, transport, and dispose of their dangerous waste. Find a hazardous waste service provider.


Asbestos and asbestos-containing materials

Olympic View Transfer Station is a permitted asbestos disposal site. Pre-approval is required for all asbestos disposal. ​Follow the asbestos disposal requirements carefully.


Contaminated soil and sand

Pre-approval from WM Solutions is required for disposal of soil or sand contaminated with hazardous or flammable chemicals. Create a waste profile at WMSolutions.com or call 1-800-963-4776. ​This material is only accepted at Olympic View Transfer Station.


Creosote-treated lumber disposal

Pre-approval through WM Solutions is required for disposal of creosote-treated lumber. Create a waste profile at WMSolutions.com or call 1-800-963-4776. This material is only accepted at Olympic View Transfer Station.


Demolition and renovation debris 

Demolition and renovation waste may contain hazardous materials like asbestos, mercury, and lead. For this reason, businesses must follow regulations for handling and disposing of demolition and renovation waste. 

An A.H.E.R.A. asbestos survey or waiver must be presented at Olympic View Transfer Station at the time of disposal. Learn about this survey or waiver at the Clean Air Agency websites below.

Fluorescent tubes and lights

Eligible businesses can use the free LightRecycle Washington program to recycle up to 10 bulbs or tubes per day, per business at local drop-off sites.

Paint

Businesses may qualify to use the free statewide PaintCare program for oil and latex architectural paints and coatings. Pickup service for large volumes is also available.


Pollution prevention assistance program

Small Quantity Generator businesses can get free, hands-on pollution prevention assistance to help them improve workplace safety, better understand the regulations, and other helpful advice. Contact the local specialists at Kitsap Public Health (360)728-2235 for a free consultation


Sharps

Businesses that generate sharps should hire a permitted medical waste collection company. Sharps cannot be placed in the garbage or recycling. Business may not drop-off sharps at Kitsap County waste facilities.



Tire disposal

Businesses that generate waste tires should hire a licensed waste tire carrier. Businesses may also bring waste tires to Olympic View Transfer Station.
