Commissioners meet on Southworth Drive Project

(Port Orchard) – Kitsap County’s Board of Commissioners and County staff met this morning to discuss the Southworth Drive Road Improvement Project. In an effort to resolve negotiations for additional property required for the road project, the Commissioners requested that Public Works adjust its administrative offer to reflect the change in property values over the last year.

The project is a direct result of residents asking the Commissioners to improve safety in the area. The proposed work includes new paved shoulders and a slight realignment that will improve sight distances and increase safety. Drainage improvements are also included in the project. This section of Southworth Drive is the last section between the ferry terminal and the Port Orchard city limits without shoulders. In a continuing effort to work cooperatively with the affected landowners, the Commissioners requested that the updated offers be made before the initiation of condemnation proceedings.
