Public Hearing Set for Surface and Storm Water Rate Adjustment

(Port Orchard) The Kitsap County Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing regarding an adjustment of the fee collected for the County’s Surface and Storm Water Program as part of their regularly scheduled board meeting May 22. The Commissioner's meeting begins at 10:00 a.m. in the Commissioner’s Chambers at the Courthouse in Port Orchard.

The fee, currently $50 annually, would increase to $57.30 in 2007, $62.30 in 2008, $67.30 in 2009 and $69.80 in 2010 under the proposal. The proposed rate adjustment will allow the program to continue to provide the current level of service while adding long term funding for replacement of storm water facilities that have reached the end of their service life. By dedicating a portion of the fee to replacement costs for county owned stormwater facilities the County avoids taking on debt and its associated cost when replacing worn out components of the storm water system. Having the fund allows for replacing assets before they fail thus avoiding localized flooding, road surface damage, and private property damage that typically occurs when drainage systems fail.
