Storm Report – February 6, 2006 @ 4:00 pm

Clean up work continued today for crews from Kitsap County Public Works. Saturday mornings high winds caused wide-spread power failures and affected county-maintained roads throughout the County. The high winds brought down trees, limbs, and branches blocking many roads. At one point there were 90 locations where storm debris either restricted or blocked traffic. Most roads have been cleared of debris and reopened.

There are still some locations where roads are restricted. In these locations trees and debris have brought down utility lines. To protect crews, we wait for utility crews on-site to verify that the lines are not charged before debris removal begins. At each of these locations the road will be cleared when Puget Sound Energy (PSE) clears the lines.

  NORTH KITSAP ROADS

  • Foulweather Bluff Road NE is restricted to one lane. There are three trees down along with a utility pole and downed power lines.

  • Taree Drive NE is closed at the center section of the road. Residents can access each end,  but can’t drive through the center section. There is a tree down and downed power lines.

  • Hood Canal Drive NE is restricted to one lane between Twin Spits and Vista Key. A tree brought power lines down there.

  CENTRAL KITSAP ROADS

  • Gustafson Road NW is restricted to one lane between Old Frontier and Westgate. The power lines there are broken and on the roadway. Barricades have been placed around the lines restricting traffic.

  SOUTH KITSAP ROAD

  • Ramiller Lane SE is restricted near the Mullenix Road intersection. A tree fell on the roadway and brought power lines down with it. PSE crews were on site at this report.

  • Westway Drive SE is closed between Sedgewick and Northway. There is a power line hanging low across roadway.

Once power lines are cleared by PSE road crews will remove the debris and open these roads. These roads should reopen later tonight or sometime tomorrow. If there are closure that will continue past 3:00 p.m. tomorrow (2/7/06) we will issue another release.
