Mudslide closes NE Sawdust Hill Road

Port Orchard, WA — NE Sawdust Hill Road is closed between Stottlemeyer Road NE and Big Valley Road NE until at least next Tuesday. Mud slid from under and along the road shoulder surface about ¼ mile from the Big Valley Road NE intersection.

Public Works crews were dispatched around midnight last night to respond to a call reporting the problem. Crews secured the area and waited for daylight to assess the situation. An inspection this morning revealed a two foot gap below the shoulder for about 50 feet along the road. Engineering staff will examine that, along with some cracking in the road surface near the centerline, to determine the next step. Signs and barricades are on site. An advisory sign is posted on S.R. 307 at Big Valley Road.

No other significant problems have been reported on County-maintained roads. Crews continue to monitor the situation.
