Kitsap County Public Works to begin bypass lane improvement on Sidney Road NW
(Port Orchard, WA) - Kitsap County’s Department of Public Works is constructing a new southbound bypass lane on Sidney Road SW at the intersection of Shannon Drive SW, improving safety for both vehicles and pedestrians. The project widens the travel lanes from the current 11 feet to 12 feet; constructs a 12-foot southbound bypass lane; and paves and widens the existing gravel shoulders from six feet to eight feet.
Stormwater collection will also be improved with the addition of catch basins and storm pipes. A bioretention facility, commonly referred to as a “rain garden,” will be constructed along the east side of Sidney Road, improving runoff and water quality while promoting stormwater infiltration.
Throughout the project, one lane of traffic will be maintained in the work zone. Flaggers will assist with expected periodic one-lane closures; however every effort will be made to minimize traffic delays. Immediate passage for emergency vehicles will be provided at all times and crews will maintain access to driveways.
The project begins mid-April and is expected to be complete by mid-June 2015.
