Sign up now to stay informed about County roads during inclement weather

(Port Orchard) - County officials are encouraging residents to sign up now to keep informed during winter storms. “We have several options that help residents keep informed during winter storms,” according to Doug Bear, County Public Communications Manager. "These options let residents choose the best way for them to receive automatic updates during inclement weather.

The Kitsap Electronic Notification System is a comprehensive messaging system designed to provide the latest information during winter storms. Subscribers choose from several options on the type of information they want, how they want it delivered, and how frequently they want updates. Subscribers receive updates by email or text message and can have messages sent directly to their mobile device. "I encourage residents to subscribe to the Inclement Weather/Emergency Information and The Road Report topics at a minimum," Bear added. "After you select your topic you also have the option to sign up for notifications from the Washington State Department of Transportation including pass reports and road condition alerts on State highways."

Information sent through this system is posted to the County’s Facebook page and sent to the County's Twitter feed.
To sign up for KENS go to the County’s homepage (www.kitsapgov.com) and click the sign up icon on the top of the right sidebar. From there you are prompted for your contact information (email address or mobile phone number) and select the topics in which you are interested. Subscribers manage their profile and can add or delete subscriptions from their account.

On Facebook residents can “Like” the Kitsap County page (www.facebook.com/kitsapwa) and have updates posted to their personal news feed. To follow the Twitter feeds go to the County’s Twitter page (www.twitter.com/kitsapwa) and click the “Follow” icon.

Winter storm updates are also posted to the County’s Inclement Weather page at www.kitsapgov.com/press/inclement_weather.asp. You can also get there by clicking on the snowflake icon at the top of the County’s homepage. The Inclement Weather page includes links to several resources useful during inclement weather. The link below is to a handout with all the ways you can stay connected with Kitsap County. “We hope this helps our community stay connected during winter weather and provides useful information during storms,” Bear added.
