FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sustainable Cinema Series features “Salmon Forest”
Thursday, August 23 at 6:30 pm (Port Orchard) - Beautiful cinematography showcases Canada’s Pacific Coast, lined with more than 248 miles of forested inlets and islands – the largest tract of intact temperate rainforest on earth. Millions of spawning salmon support dense concentrations of forest life. Bears, eagles, seals, otters, gulls and countless invertebrates thrive. Join biologist Dr. Tom Reichen as he reveals the secrets of why black and grizzly bears fish at night. Entomologist Dr. Neville Winchester shares a look at strange-looking arthropods and insects that litter the forest canopy. The connection to the land and sea of the Gitga’at, a First Nations people, is featured as they perform their traditional Salmon Dance. The Sustainable Cinema Series offers films to stimulate community discussion. Kitsap County Commissioner sponsors the series, held at the Dragonfly Cinema in downtown Port Orchard at 822 Bay Street. A $5 donation is suggested. Learn more about the film here.
