KITSAP COUNTY CITIZENS SIGN THE DECLARATION OF
INDEPENDENCE
Celebrating our country's anniversary and reaffirming the belief that
everyone is created equal and has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit
of happiness, members of the Kitsap Board of County Commissioners were
joined by local citizens in signing an 8 foot wide, 40 foot tall Declaration
of Independence banner at last night's county commissioners business meeting
The banner, which actually only has the preamble to the Declaration of
Independence, has 7,000+ signatures from all over the world. Created by the
county's Council for Human Rights in 2002, the banner quickly became too
large to take to local community events and was retired.
However the three-story lobby in the county's new administration building
makes it a perfect place for display and the banner has been brought out of
retirement.
The public is invited to sign the 'Declaration of Independence' through July
7th. The county administration building is located at 619 Division Street in
Port Orchard, is open 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
