Plans for the Future
Day Reporting School Program
Day Reporting Schools have
been established throughout the state to provide juvenile courts with
educational alternatives for court-ordered youths. In September 2001, the
State Institution-Funding Rule (Chapter 392-122 WAC) was amended to allow
for the extension of present detention school services to students under
electronic monitoring or subject to day reporting restrictions if under
court order and meeting all other requirements. Therefore, Olympic
Educational Service District 114, in collaboration with the Kitsap County
Juvenile Department, is planning Day Reporting School services to youths
eligible under this new ruling. The plan calls for the Day Reporting
School to be housed at the Juvenile Detention Center, and will be designed
to work with students in need of credit completion, academic remediation,
GED, and job skills training.
Detention School Outreach Program
The Detention School Outreach program intends to provide
youths with prevention education and information regarding programs and/or
resources available in their community. One such program is Dating
Violence Education.
This program aims to help youths recognize the signs of a
healthy and unhealthy relationship. Presented by Relationship Education
Strengthens and Provides Empowering Choices for Today’s (RESPECT) Kitsap
Youth committee.
