Aftercare:
Services that are provided after formal treatment has been completed to assist an individual in maintaining recovery.

Assessment:
The process by which a trained professional uses evaluation tools to determine the nature and extent of an individual's alcohol/drug problem.

Detoxification:
The care and treatment of an individual while he/she recovers from the effects of intoxication or withdrawal. Depending on the condition of the individual, withdrawal medications may (acute care)or may not (subacute care) be used during the "detox" process.

Intervention:
An interaction carried out by a trained counselor designed to show the individual the serious nature of his/her behavior and the effect that this behavior has on others.

Inpatient Treatment:
Individuals live in the facility where they are receiving care.

Outpatient Services:
Treatment is provided in a clinic setting with the individual living in their own home while in treatment.

Triage Crisis Services:
Acute care for individuals experiencing an array of problems associated with substance abuse and mental health issues.

Individual, Group and Family Therapy:
These types of therapy are used in a comprehensive program. Individual therapy consists of one on one sessions between the client and therapist. Group therapy involves several individuals and one or two group leaders. Family therapy involves the individual and his/her family and a therapist.

Recovery:
The lifelong process of making a successful adjustment to abstinence from alcohol and other drugs.
