DCD Lean Process Improvement

DCD Teams Up to Improve Single Family Residence Permit Process.

July 9th –July 13th DCD teamed up with Impact Washington to analyze the Single Family Residence Permit Process. The week long Kaizen event focused on mapping out the current process, identifying where there are wasted steps and brainstorming ideas to eliminate the waste and improve the process. At the end of the week the team delivered the final ‘report out’ that tells the story of the week and focuses on highlights of the implementation plan. The final ‘report out’ and interviews with participants are available below on this page under Important Links.  The department began implementing these changes the following Monday morning and has continued development of the improvements since the Kaizen week. A recent 30 day ‘report out’ of the event took place on August 23rd and had favorable results thus far. Current average review time for a Single Family Residence has been reduced by 77% to 6 days. There will be a 60 and 90 day report out to continue checking progress and to identify what is targeted next for further improvement within the department.
