Environmental Programs
The Environmental Programs Team protects and restores
natural resources and ecosystems through education, planning, and collaborative
efforts. They work to ensure Kitsap County’s forests, clean air, water, and
wildlife are sustained for current and future generations. They work to ensure
that the contributions of natural resources to human well-being are recognized
and valued and that maintaining their health is a primary objective.
Shore Friendly Kitsap is a program to assist marine shoreline homeowners who are interested in voluntarily removing all or part of their old bulkhead

Puget Sound recovery focuses on the whole Puget Sound
ecosystem, including water quality, habitat, and the entire food chain from
plankton to people and orcas. Puget Sound recovery is managed at a watershed
scale through the collaboration of local organizations, local governments, and
tribes. Those collaborative bodies are called Local Integrating Organizations.
There are nine Local Integrating Organizations in the Puget Sound region and
two in Kitsap County.
Salmon recovery in
Washington State is managed at a watershed scale through the collaboration of

bodies are called Lead Entities. There are 25 Lead Entities statewide and two
in Kitsap County.
