Connector Road & Design Standards Process

The Waaga Way Extension Road is designed to provide a new connection between Clear Creek and Old Frontier Roads located north of Silverdale. The project is also associated with the Washington State Department of Transportation’s work on the new Waaga Way Interchange. Discussion on design of this roadway was originally initiated in 1998, with funding acquired over the years from local, state and federal sources. To that end, the Extension Road was eventually added to the County’s Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) in 2000 to initiate the roadway design and engineering. This roadway is designed to have limited connections along its length to facilitate traffic flow.

Construction of this valuable corridor is expected to take place over the course of several years, ending in 2009. Additionally, as the Extension Road will have a median with the intent to limit access points, the County will be reviewing the opportunities for a connector road system provides access to properties north and south of the Extension Road, as well as expansion of design standards. As such, Kitsap County has established stakeholder committee to aid in the location of the connector roads and development of the design standards. Noted below are links to the project website.

The Waaga Way Extension is designed to be a limited access 3/4 mile new roadway consisting of four lanes, a 12-foot median strip, with bike and separated sidewalks by a planter strip. This roadway is designed to have limited connections along its length to facilitate traffic flow. Areas north, south and west of the Extension Road is zoned for commercial, business center, industrial and residential uses.
